İskeçe: Man caught growing cannabis at home – 12 arrests across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace for drug offenses
As part of ongoing targeted operations to combat drug trafficking and use, 12 individuals were arrested between July 16–22, 2025 in various parts of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, according to the regional police departments of Kumçiftliği, Dedeağaç, İskeçe, Kavala, and Drama. The arrests led to 10 separate case files being formed, involving 10 Greek nationals and 2 foreign nationals, for violations of drug-related legislation.
Notable Case in İskeçe:
On July 16, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit of İskeçe arrested a local man after discovering a 1.45-meter-tall cannabis plant growing at his residence in a nearby village. The search also led to the seizure of:
- 73.3 grams of raw cannabis
- 42 grams of processed cannabis
- 46.7 grams of unknown substances
- 3.7 grams of cannabis leaves
- A metal tin containing cannabis seeds
Additional Arrests:
In nine more incidents during the same week, law enforcement in Meriç, Drama, Kavala, and Thasos conducted searches and arrests, leading to the seizure of:
- Small quantities of cocaine and unprocessed cannabis
- 13 narcotic pills
- 2 cannabis cigarettes
- 1 cannabis grinder
These arrests occurred in:
- Meriç: 5 Greek nationals
- Drama: 3 Greek nationals
- Kavala and Thasos: 2 foreign nationals and 1 Greek national
Seized substances were found in three homes, one private vehicle, and in the possession of the suspects.
All case files have been forwarded to the appropriate prosecutors, while preliminary investigations are being carried out by the respective drug enforcement and crime investigation units in Alexandroupolis, Orestiada, Kavala, Xanthi, Drama, and the Thasos Police Department.
