Hüseyin Zeybek calls for transparency over EU agricultural payments as 2025 data remains unpublished

Independent MP for İskeçe Hüseyin Zeybek has submitted a parliamentary question urging the Greek government to explain why information on beneficiaries of 2025 agricultural support payments under the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has yet to be made public.

Addressing the Ministers of Economy and Finance and Rural Development and Food, Zeybek stressed that transparent management of EU funds is a fundamental obligation for all member states. He noted that EU legislation requires member states to publish information on CAP beneficiaries from the previous financial period by May 31 each year.

Despite government assurances following the OPEKEPE scandal that the agricultural payment system would be restructured and made more transparent, Zeybek said no data on 2025 support payments has been released. He added that although OPEKEPE's responsibilities have been transferred to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), the online platform used to publish beneficiary information has not been updated, with the latest available data dating back to October 15, 2024.

Zeybek argued that the absence of the data coincides with the period during which the OPEKEPE scandal came to public attention, raising concerns over whether the delay is merely technical or reflects an attempt to avoid public scrutiny and accountability regarding the management of EU agricultural funds.

Emphasizing that publishing complete information on CAP beneficiaries is both a legal obligation under EU law and essential for restoring confidence in the agricultural payment system, Zeybek asked the government to clarify the reasons for the delay, identify the institution responsible, disclose whether EU authorities have requested explanations from Greece, indicate whether the country risks financial corrections or sanctions, and specify when the full 2025 payment data will be released.
