Habip Oğlu: "The Government Should Abandon Victim and Populist Discourse"
"According to a recent survey, only 3 out of every 10 people in our country said that they trust the judiciary and judges."
Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, in his speech at the 15th congress of New Democracy, claimed that those who criticise the government do not want stability in the country.
In his speech, Georgiadis claimed that the European Parliament's (EP) resolution on the state of the rule of law in Greece is full of lies and said that the said resolution is an unfortunate moment for Europe.
Halit Habip Oğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), made the following assessment on the issue
"The government should immediately abandon victim literature and populist rhetoric"
"Are we surprised by the remarks of Health Minister Georgiadis targeting the European Parliament? No...Georgiadis, like other members of the government, prefers to use populist and aggressive language instead of responding objectively to warnings and constructive criticism from Europe about serious developments that threaten the rule of law in our country.
Even though the rulers of our country continue to deny the necessity and try to cover the sun with mud, the state of the rule of law in our country today is obvious and there are serious problems in the functioning of the legal system due to political pressure on the judiciary.
According to a recent survey, only 3 out of every 10 people in our country said that they trust the judiciary and judges.
Leading civil society organisations in Türkiye have submitted reports to the EU Commission on the deterioration of the rule of law.
The most striking example of the systematic violation of the rule of law and the politicisation of the higher judiciary in our country is the fact that our country has ignored the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights against the associations of our society and has not implemented them for 16 years.
The government should immediately abandon victim literature and populist rhetoric and take the necessary steps without further delay, taking into account the warnings and criticisms regarding this negative situation regarding the rule of law in our country."
