Greek Helsinki Monitor Spokesperson Panayotis Dimitras evaluated the court approval of the "Macedonian Language Center" to Milletnews.
Deeming the approval of the statute of the "Macedonian Language Center" as an NGO by the Florina Court of First Instance as a very positive development, Dimitras said that it would be a great and exemplary development if the court-approved NGO was allowed to operate normally.
He said that if a possible appeal of the NGO whose establishment was approved is accepted and dissolved, Greece will remain the only EU country in the world that has zero tolerance for ethnic minorities.
GHM spokesperson told Milletnews:
The formal registration by the Florina court of the Center for the Macedonian Language in Greece (https://makedonski.gr) is of great importance, whatever happens in the future.
If it is allowed to operate normally, it will be a huge evolution in a country whose courts have until now refused registration or dissolved other Macedonian minority associations.
If, however, some court accepts a probable appeal and dissolves it, as it has happened recently with another similar association, it will expose Greece internationally and will lead to an avalanche of convictions and condemnations by international courts and organizations, reminding the international community that Greece is the only European country, where all political parties, all media and almost all civil society organizations have zero tolerance of its ethnic, Turkish and Macedonian, minorities.
