Garbage truck trapped after road collapse in İskeçe
An unusual incident occurred on Sunday morning near the city center of İskeçe, where a municipal garbage truck became trapped in a sinkhole that suddenly formed on the roadway during routine waste collection operations.
The incident took place on Andreu Dimitriou Street, a busy urban road close to central İskeçe. According to initial assessments, the collapse was likely caused by recent infrastructure works combined with heavy rainfall, which weakened the road surface and led to subsidence.
For safety reasons, the street was temporarily closed to traffic, while the truck driver and municipal workers waited for roadside assistance and technical crews to safely remove the vehicle from the damaged section of the road.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the situation was brought under control shortly after the incident. Municipal officials are expected to conduct further inspections to assess structural damage and prevent similar occurrences in the area.
The event has raised renewed concerns about urban infrastructure resilience, particularly in regions affected by frequent rainfall and ongoing underground utility works.
