Fraudster who introduced himself as a doctor arrested in Meriç

A 40-year-old Bulgarian citizen was arrested in a residential neighbourhood in the Evros region. The arrested person was a member of a gang with other unknown accomplices.

According to the police report, the criminal, posing as a doctor, tricked an elderly man by calling him. With a false story, he convinced the man to hand over jewellery worth around 5,000 euros to his 40-year-old accomplice, saying that the man's daughter had been injured and needed urgent surgical intervention. Following a tip-off by the old man's granddaughter, a coordinated police operation was organised. During the operation, the suspect was spotted in a car in front of the victim's house and the jewellery he had taken from the victim was seized and handed over to the owner. A wooden stick and a mobile phone were also recovered from the car.

The 40-year-old suspect has been charged with forming and participating in a criminal organisation, fraud and violating the Arms Act. The file also includes other wanted accomplices. The arrested suspect was referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Alexandroupolis.

Efforts are underway to identify the suspect's accomplices and, if necessary, to verify their involvement in similar offences.
