Flood protection projects in Rhodope: Interventions in Paradimi and the periphery of Komotini
Significant flood protection projects are currently underway in the Rhodope region, according to a post by Rhodope Deputy Governor Mr. Manolis Tapatzas. The projects, with a total budget of €1.5 million, are being carried out by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Rhodope Regional Unit) through its Directorate of Technical Works.
The interventions include cleaning the Paradimi stream and other streams west of Komotini, near the Vosvozis River and behind the Rodopi Hotel. These works aim to restore the functionality of existing flood protection infrastructure, which had been neglected for years.
Mr. Tapatzas emphasized that protecting areas threatened or previously affected by flooding is a top priority for the Region and its Governor, Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis. The ongoing projects, as well as future plans, are expected to significantly reduce the risk of flooding and enhance the safety of residents and infrastructure.
