First in history happens in the Holy Quran Recitation Competition

The final of the 17th Qur'anic Recitation Competition organised among the Qur'anic courses affiliated to the Muftiate of Komotini was held today (Saturday 11 May 2024) in Omurluköy.

One of the competitions organised among the Qur'an courses operating in the Evros and Rhodope regions under the Komotini S. Mufti's Office is the Competition of Reading the Holy Qur'an Beautifully.

After the preliminary qualifiers in eight different regions, the students of the Qur'an courses, who have come first in their regions, compete to be the best in the final of the competition.

Last year in the competition organised in Evrenköy of Maronya-Shapchi Municipality, Elanur Deli Hasan, a student of Omurluköy Qur'an Course, came first. For this reason, this year the 17th Qur'an Recitation Competition was organised in Omurluköy. Compatriots showed great interest in the competition organised in Omurluköy Mosque.

The competition programme was presented by Deputy Mufti Fehim Ahmet and started with the Ashr-i Sharif recited by last year's winner Elanur Deli Hasan.

Then the competition started and the winners of the eight regions were determined by electronic lottery.

In the presence of the jury members and the men and women who filled the mosque, the students recited the pages of the Qur'an and prayer periods by electronic lottery.

After the readings of all the students were completed, Mufti İbrahim Şerif of Komotini gave a speech to the hundreds of the participants of the competition until the jury members decided the winners.

Mufti Ibrahim Sharif emphasised the importance of learning the Holy Qur'an, the efforts of parents for their children to learn the Holy Qur'an and religious knowledge, the education in Qur'an courses and the importance of religious competitions between the courses.

Afterwards, Ahmet Bayraktar, Mufti of Ipsala, who came from Türkiye to follow the competition, took the floor and greeted the Western Thracian kinsmen. Bayraktar expressed his happiness to be with the kinsmen in Omurluköy to watch the competition and emphasised the learning and teaching of the Holy Qur'an and stressed that the Turkish Muslim community in Western Thrace is in a very good situation thanks to the Qur'an courses operating under the elected mufti offices.

After the speeches, the congregation and the administrators went to the courtyard of the mosque and followed the results of the competition.

Before the results were announced, protocol speeches were made. Mayor of Kozlukebir Erdem Hüseyin, President of Friendship Equality Peace Party Çiğdem Asafoğlu and New Left Party Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat took the floor and greeted the people.

They congratulated the competing students, their teachers and their families. They also congratulated the Board of Trustees of Omurluköy, Omurluköy Qur'an Course Chaplain Rıdvan Bekir and the people of Omurluköy who made great efforts for the success of the competition.
