Exemplary work in Xanthi: Turks protect their cultural heritage
The cemetery of Tıkızlı, which has not been used for many years and almost turned into a forest, is being cleaned within the framework of the campaign initiated by the support of the Mufti's Office of Xanthi and the Friends of Ihlamur Group.
Since all the Turks living in the village of Tıkızlı migrated to the motherland Türkiye years ago, there are no members of the Turkish minority living in this village. Gürhan Ömeroğlu, a resident of Kireççiler village of Xanthi, who took the initiative to clean the cemetery, stated that the campaign initiated with the support of the Mufti's Office of Xanthi has completed its second week. Ömeroğlu stated that with the work carried out in a short time, some tombstones were uncovered and 250 years old graves were cleaned and brought to light after years.
Gürhan Ömeroğlu said, "If the participation is good, we have two weeks of work left. We will take a break for the next two weeks due to the local elections. The date of our next work will be announced both on social media and by the Mufti's Office of Xanthi in the following weeks."
