The initiative applies to border guards who become parents and forms part of a broader effort to support young families in a region characterized by increased professional demands, challenging service conditions, and social pressures.

Retroactive Financial Support from January 2026
The allowance has retroactive effect as of 1 January 2026 and amounts to €200 for each new birth. The Union clarified that this benefit does not replace state-provided birth allowances, but instead complements existing public support, offering additional financial relief to its members.

Application Procedure Simplified
Eligible members must submit a formal application to the Union of Border Guards of Evros Prefecture. The application must be accompanied by:

A signed declaration
A birth certificate or other official document confirming the birth
All required documents are submitted electronically via the Union’s official email address, ensuring a fast and simplified process without additional bureaucratic burden.

Socially Oriented Initiative
According to the Board of Directors of the Union, the new birth allowance carries a clear social orientation. Its primary goal is to support new parents at a time when living costs are rising and family-related expenses are increasing.

Addressing Demographic Challenges in Meriç
The Union also highlighted that the initiative forms part of a broader effort to combat low birth rates in the Evros region. By strengthening family support mechanisms, the Union seeks to enhance the quality of life for border guards who often serve in remote and demanding locations under difficult conditions.

The introduction of the birth allowance reflects the Union’s broader role, extending beyond traditional labor representation to include social welfare and family support, reaffirming its commitment to the well-being of its members.
