Eastern Macedonia and Thrace governor joins regional meeting with Greek PM

Christodoulos Topsidis, Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, participated in a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Greece’s regional governors at the Maximos Mansion in Athens.

The agenda focused on development priorities, including EU-funded Regional Programs, climate resilience, infrastructure, and demographic decline. Topsidis described the meeting as “substantive and productive,” emphasizing the need for clear governance, faster decision-making, and targeted investment.

Key issues raised included water resource management, drought preparedness, population aging, and the urgent implementation of the EU’s TEBA program to combat poverty. Topsidis also highlighted the importance of adapting regional strategies to climate challenges through rational environmental planning.

Special attention was given to the mapping of grazing lands, a pressing issue following the recent abolition of OPEKEPE, the state’s agricultural payments agency.

“Development must be fair and inclusive — and that’s a shared responsibility across all levels of government,” Topsidis concluded.
