The Bank of Greece's data on the geographic distribution of bank deposits provides revealing insights.

The Attica region holds the largest share of deposits, totaling €106.243 billion across 14,706,370 accounts as of June 2024. Specifically, Athens leads with €87.014 billion (11,242,008 accounts), followed by Piraeus with €9.144 billion (1,742,276 accounts).

Central Macedonia ranks second with €24.908 billion in deposits and 5,606,545 accounts, with Thessaloniki contributing the most (€17.348 billion). On Crete, the third-richest region with €9.182 billion, Heraklion leads (€4.609 billion).

In Thrace, Xanthi's deposits amount to €962 million (289,728 accounts), trailing behind Kavala (€1.732 billion) and Evros (€1.686 billion).

The poorest region in terms of deposits is the North Aegean, with €2.753 billion across 631,716 accounts, where Lesvos holds the highest share (€1.330 billion).

This geographic analysis highlights the economic disparities between regions across Greece.
