Delegations of the Austrian and Hungarian Parliament pay visit to Meric
Delegations of the European Affairs Committee of the Austrian and Hungarian Parliaments visited Evros province to learn about the management of the migration issue in the region.
The members of the two delegations first visited Vice-President Pulilios at the Prefecture building in Alexandroupoli.
The briefing was attended by Yannis Plakiotakis, First Vice-President of the Greek Parliament, Lazaros Tsavdaridis, Chairman of the Committee for Public Administration, Public Order and Justice, Patroklos Georgiadis, Secretary for Migration Policy and Evangelos Poulilios, Vice-President of Evros Prefecture.
On the same day, the delegations of the European Affairs Committees of the Austrian and Hungarian Parliaments visited the fence walls being built in the Ferecik region.
The members of the delegation had the opportunity to observe and examine the construction of the fence wall on site.
The members of the delegation were briefed by members of the Greek Police, Frontex and the Ministries of National Defence and Migration and Asylum on the effectiveness of the measures taken to prevent illegal migration.
The delegations of the European Affairs Committees of the Austrian and Hungarian Parliaments also visited the Integrated Border Management and Migration Operations Centre of the Alexandroupoli Police Directorate at "Democritus" Airport.
