Contracts signed for the relocation Kastanies border crossing
Contracts have been signed for the relocation and modernization of the Kestanelik (Kastanies) border crossing in the Meriç regional unit, a project aimed at improving cross-border traffic management and strengthening infrastructure along the Greece–Türkiye frontier.
The project, with an estimated budget of €15 million, will involve the construction of a new border station designed to accommodate growing passenger and commercial traffic while enhancing operational efficiency and security.
Authorities said the existing facilities no longer meet current demands, particularly during peak travel periods. The new complex is expected to provide modern customs, passport control and support services, reducing waiting times and improving the overall border-crossing experience.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to upgrade strategic transport and border infrastructure in northeastern Greece and facilitate connectivity with neighboring Türkiye.
Construction is expected to begin following the completion of the necessary administrative procedures.
