Champions announced of the traditional Dr Sadık Ahmet Football Tournament
The 13th Traditional Dr. Sadık Ahmet Football Tournament, organised jointly by the Youth Branches of the Friendship Equality Peace (FEP) Party and the Young Academics Community (GAT) of the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association (WTMUGA), has been completed.
Organised on the occasion of the 28th death anniversary of the unforgettable leader of Western Thrace Turks, the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet, the "13th Dr. Sadık Ahmet Football Tournament" was held on 12-23 July at the football field of Bulat village of Yassıköy Municipality.
A total of 24 teams, including youth teams and adult teams, competed for the championship in the tournament.
In the final matches played on Sunday evening, 23 July, Yahyabeyli Eagles defeated Fenerbahçe Association team 2-1 in the youth category and Xanthi Young Academics Community team defeated its rival DEB Young team 1-0 in the adult category and completed the tournament as champion. Before both finals, the late Dr Sadık Ahmet was commemorated with a minute of silence.
The final matches played at Bulatköy football pitch attracted great interest of both the administrators and the cognates from Komotini and Xanthi.
Among those who watched the final matches were Deputy Consul General Adnan Öztürk representing the Consulate General of Türkiye in Komotini, the wife of the late leader Dr. Işık Sadık Ahmet, wife of the late leader Dr. Sadık Ahmet, FEP Party Honorary President Işık Sadık Ahmet, his son Levent Sadık Ahmet and his wife Şerike Sadık Ahmet, his daughter Funda Sadık Ahmet, EMT Region Vice President Ahmet Ibram, FEP Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu, President of the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association Hüseyin Baltacı and members of the board of directors, President of the Komotini Turkish Youth Union Sedat Hasan, President of the Association of Western Thrace Minority Schools Councillors Ahmet Kara were among hundreds of kinsmen.
After the final matches of the tournament in which the champions were determined, a trophy and medal ceremony was held.
The top four teams in the tournament were awarded medals, while the champion teams were presented with medals and trophies. All teams participating in the tournament were given certificates of participation by the organisers.
