Bursa Yıldırım Mayor Oktay Yılmaz visits Western Thrace

Bursa Yıldırım Mayor Oktay Yılmaz and his delegation paid an official visit to Western Thrace on March 24, engaging in a series of meetings and visits.

Diplomatic and Community Engagements
Accompanied by Hasan Karaömer, President of the Western Thrace Turks Association (BTTD) Bursa Branch, Yılmaz first visited Turkey’s Consul General in Komotini, Aykut Ünal. The delegation then held discussions in Komotini and Xanthi, meeting with leaders of minority institutions and organizations.

Sharing his reflections on social media, Mayor Yılmaz stated:

"Our spiritual homeland goes beyond borders, forming a bridge from heart to heart. Western Thrace is one of the oldest pillars of this bridge. We visited Komotini Mufti Ibrahim Serif, the Komotini Turkish Youth Union, and Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa. Additionally, we paid our respects at the grave of the late elected Mufti of Xanthi, Ahmet Mete, who dedicated his life to the Western Thrace cause."

Tribute to Dr. Sadık Ahmet
The delegation also visited the grave of Dr. Sadık Ahmet, the leader of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace. A statement regarding the visit read:

"Sadık Ahmet is not just a name; he is a symbol of resistance and devotion. We proudly honor his name in our district and will never forget his struggle. May his soul rest in peace."

Visit to Kozlukebir Municipality
As part of the visit, Mayor Oktay Yılmaz and his delegation also met with Erdem Hüseyin, the Mayor of Kozlukebir Municipality.

Expressing his gratitude, Mayor Erdem Hüseyin stated:

"We sincerely thank Bursa Yıldırım Mayor Oktay Yılmaz, BTTDD Bursa Branch President Hasan Karaömer, and the delegation for their courtesy visit to our municipality before iftar last night."

Following the meetings, the delegation attended a communal iftar dinner in Bıyıklıköy, a village within Kozlukebir Municipality.
