Cemeteries are historical and culturally significant monuments and sanctuaries," BTTADK said, condemning the Bulustra Municipality for approving the construction of a football stadium in place of the destroyed cemetery, and for its disrespect for the Muslim Turkish minority's historical and cultural values.
The condemnation made by BTTADK is as follows:
We strongly condemn this disrespect againist our historical and cultural values, particularly the decision by the Bulustra (Avdira) Municipality to demolish the minority Turkish cemetery in the village of Horozlu of Xanthi and replace it with a football field. As a result of this unfortunate decision of the mayor, it is our priority request to repair the tombstones that were destroyed by construction equipment and to transport them to their place as they should be.
Finally, we would like to state that the municipality should renounce this erroneous decision and owes an apology to the Turkish minority community for its action.
