Bavaria donates firefighting equipment to EMT region
The Fire Department of Meriç (Evros) received a donation of firefighting equipment on Tuesday from Munich Airport, collected with the support of the Aghii Pantes Greek Orthodox parish and the Thracian Association in Munich.
The handover took place at Dedeğaç (Alexandroupolis) Town Hall, where Eastern Macedonia-Thrace Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis hailed the gesture as “an exceptional example of practical solidarity, Greek-Bavarian friendship, and strengthened cooperation in vital areas such as civil protection, wildfire prevention, firefighting, and crisis management.”
Addressing Bavarian Parliament Vice President Markus Rinderspacher, who attended the event, Topsidis emphasized that collaboration between the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and Bavaria “creates new opportunities.” He invited Bavaria to view the region as a partner for investment, highlighting major EU-funded infrastructure projects, strategic location, and access to significant markets.
Rinderspacher praised the resilience of Meriç (Evros) residents, recalling that the 2023 wildfires were the most destructive in European Union history. “The people of Evros showed courage, solidarity, and stamina and deserve respect,” he said, adding that the donation also carried a message of European unity: that member states stand together and support one another.
