Aerial mosquito control spraying to begin in İskeçe coastal areas

Aerial mosquito control operations are scheduled to begin in coastal areas of İskeçe as part of efforts to combat mosquito populations, according to an announcement by the General Directorate of Public Health of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

Ultra-low volume (ULV) aerial spraying will be carried out on Monday, August 10, 2026, in selected areas of the municipalities of Avdira and Topeiros, including South Avdira, Myrodato, Mangana and Erasmio.

The spraying will take place outside residential areas, starting after sunset and continuing for approximately two hours.

Operations depend on weather conditions

Authorities stated that the aerial spraying will proceed only if weather conditions allow safe flight operations and ensure the effectiveness of the mosquito control measures.

If the operation cannot be completed due to technical or weather-related reasons, it will be rescheduled for the following days.

Public advised to avoid spraying zones

The General Directorate of Public Health of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace urged residents to stay away from the designated spraying areas during the operation.

Authorities also requested that beekeepers take precautionary measures and remove bee colonies from the affected areas to prevent potential risks.

The mosquito control campaign is part of ongoing public health measures aimed at reducing mosquito populations and limiting the risks associated with mosquito-borne diseases.
