ABTTF condemns police violence in İskeçe

The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) strongly condemned the arbitrary detention and assault of a member of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority by a police officer in İskeçe.
ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu described the incident as “inhuman treatment”, stating:
“The excessive violence inflicted on a defenseless and innocent citizen is absolutely unacceptable.”
He extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to the victim and their family.
Habipoğlu emphasized that the event reflects a broader trend of increasing discriminatory rhetoric in recent years, fueled by hate speech targeting the Western Thrace Turkish community in mainstream media and politics. He underlined the need for those responsible to face justice without delay.
The ABTTF called for both the police officer involved and any officials negligent in the incident to be held legally and administratively accountable.
