The vehicles were financed through the European Investment Bank and the Recovery and Resilience Fund (Ταμείο Ανάκαμψης) as part of the national fleet renewal plan, which aims to provide more than 1,400 new vehicles across Greece by 2026.

The new fleet for Eastern Macedonia and Thrace includes:

  • 3 off-road firefighting tankers with a capacity of 12,000 liters
  • 1 firefighting tanker with a capacity of 20,000 liters
  • 1 firefighting tanker with a capacity of 1,000 liters
  • 3 personnel transport vehicles
  • 1 equipment transport vehicle
  • 7 4×4 off-road vehicles

“Not just vehicles, but an investment in safety”

During the delivery ceremony, Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Yannis Kefaloyannis emphasized that the vehicles represent more than just technical equipment—they are a strategic investment in public safety.

“Strengthening Eastern Macedonia and Thrace with 16 new vehicles is not merely an equipment upgrade. It is a tangible investment in citizens’ safety and the resilience of local communities. Our firefighters are on the front lines every day. The state stands beside them, enhancing their operational capacity with modern and reliable vehicles, protecting both their lives and their mission. Together with local authorities and society, we are building a safer and more prepared region.”
