Search continues for 10 missing crew after Marmara collision
Search and rescue operations are continuing in the Marmara Sea for 10 crew members believed to be missing after a commercial vessel sank following a collision with another ship off Silivri, Turkish authorities said.
The vessel Tuğberk İmamoğlu is believed to have sunk about 18 nautical miles south of Silivri, at coordinates 28.6–28 east, after colliding with the commercial ship Alsu.
Initial inspections of the Alsu found no visible damage, while authorities have been unable to establish contact with the 10 crew members aboard the Tuğberk İmamoğlu.
Rescue teams deployed
Following the accident, the governor's office and relevant authorities expanded the search operation.
The General Directorate of Coastal Safety dispatched multiple maritime search and rescue units to the scene, alongside vessels from the Turkish Coast Guard Marmara and Straits Command. A Coast Guard helicopter was also sent to the area under an emergency response code.
Search operations are continuing around the clock by air and sea.
Emergency radio call issued
The Coastal Safety Directorate's Turkish Radio has issued an emergency broadcast to all commercial and private vessels operating in the area, urging them to proceed with caution and report any findings.
The broadcast said search and rescue operations were underway for crew members missing after the Tuğberk İmamoğlu sank and asked vessels in the area to immediately notify Turkish Radio or the Coast Guard if they observed any signs of the missing sailors.
Authorities are continuing a wide-ranging search of the sea surface and surrounding waters in an effort to locate the 10 crew members.
