The inaugural ceremony of Turkic Week commenced on April 22, 2024, at the United Nations Office in Geneva, marking a significant promotional endeavor to showcase the rich heritage and cultural unity of Turkic nations.

The event, organized by the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and hosted at the Palais des Nations, features diverse activities highlighting Turkic history and traditions.

Ambassadors, permanent chiefs of mission, heads of international organizations, and distinguished guests attended the opening, all gathered to explore the Turkic world.

The spotlight of the event was an exhibition curated by TURKSOY and the Turkic Academy, featuring a variety of cultural artifacts, crafts, paintings, and photographs demonstrating the enduring legacy and historical contributions of Turkic civilizations.

General secretary of OTS, Kubanychbek Omuraliev, emphasized the historical significance of the Silk Road in facilitating cultural exchanges between East and West, thereby shaping civilizations through trade and intellectual dialogue.

"The Silk Road was instrumental in fostering interactions that shaped the very fabric of our common heritage," said Omuraliev.

In her opening remarks, U.N. Geneva Office Director-General Tatiana Valovaya expressed great pleasure in hosting the event, noting that the exhibition "fully reflects the diversity of the Turkic world's heritage and culture."

Throughout the week, attendees will be treated to interesting talks and captivating musical performances designed to deepen understanding and foster cooperation. "Enjoy the culture from all around the world," Valovaya said, encouraging the guests.

The ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the U.N. Geneva Office, Yerlan Alimbayev, spoke on behalf of OTS’s rotating presidency, emphasizing the importance of Turkic cooperation. "We are proud to support this joint effort among Turkic nations," he stated.

The Turkic Week will continue with engaging activities, including cultural shows and conferences, until Thursday, April 25, in Geneva.
