Cross-retrieval ceremony in Istanbul's Golden Horn

One of the significant Christian feasts, Theophany (symbolizing the baptism of Jesus Christ), was celebrated in Istanbul with a religious service and a cross-retrieval ceremony at the Golden Horn.
Theophany was marked with a religious ritual at the Fener Greek Patriarchate and a cross-retrieval event at the Golden Horn's Fener Pier. The ceremony at the Aya Yorgi Church within the Patriarchate began at 9:00 AM, led by Patriarch Bartholomew, featuring prayers and candle lighting.
After the service, Patriarch Bartholomew and participants proceeded in a procession to the Fener Pier. A large crowd gathered at the pier and on nearby boats to witness the event.
Following a prayer, Patriarch Bartholomew threw the cross into the water, prompting several participants to dive into the chilly waters of the Golden Horn. The cross was retrieved by Basilis Konstantinidis, who returned it to church officials.
Patriarch Bartholomew congratulated the participants and presented them with gifts. Security measures were in place throughout the ceremony.
