Bulgarian, Greek tourists in Edirne for Christmas shopping
Edirne, Türkiye's gateway to Europe, continues to attract the attention of citizens from neighbouring countries.
Tourists coming to Edirne for Christmas, which is celebrated as a holiday by most of the Christian world, created a density in the city.
Tourists do their Christmas shopping in the bazaars, markets and shopping centres in the city.
Many tourists who will welcome the New Year's Eve in Edirne made reservations in hotels and entertainment places days in advance.
Sezai Irmak, President of Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told AA correspondent that there is New Year's Eve mobility in the city.
Stating that tourists from the neighbouring country contribute to the city's economy, Irmak said, "The interest of tourists in Edirne continues with an increasing momentum at the beginning of the year. We are very happy about this."
Irmak stated that the businesses in the city have completed the necessary preparations before the New Year.
Explaining that Edirne tradesmen always offer the best service and are preferred, Irmak said:
"Many groups from Greece and Bulgaria are coming to Edirne. They have booked their places in our hotels. They celebrate Christmas on 24 December, in the same way, the number of those who want to welcome the New Year is quite high. In addition to domestic tourists, the high number of foreign tourists is beneficial for us. The occupancy rate in hotels is approaching 100 per cent, restaurants are full. They leave a serious amount of foreign currency to Edirne."
"Tourists prefer to enter the new year in Edirne"
Can Pekbaş, Edirne Representative of Tourism Hotel Managers Association, said that tourists who preferred Edirne for New Year's Eve increased the occupancy rate in hotels.
Pekbaş stated that they expect an abundant mobility in the city and said, "As every year, there is a demand from the nearby countries Bulgaria and Greece for New Year's Eve. We have made preparations to host our guests. We will do our best to make them enter the new year in a beautiful way. We have a certain amount of New Year's demand. Tourists prefer to enter the new year in Edirne. Edirne tradesmen also made good preparations for shopping."
