The 24th International Sapanca Poetry Evenings, held from June 12 to 14, concluded successfully after bringing together poets from Türkiye and across the world for three days of vibrant literary celebration.

Hosted in the province of Sakarya, this year’s event welcomed poets from North Macedonia, Uzbekistan, Western Thrace (Greece), and Palestine, alongside local Turkish poets. The festival officially opened with a poetry performance at Sakarya University’s “Saklı Bahçe” and included a series of readings, panels, and cultural gatherings.

One of the distinguished international guests this year was Western Thracian poet Müberra Karadayı.

Under the theme “Poets in High Schools,” the program extended into five local schools where students had the rare opportunity to listen to poetry recitations directly from acclaimed poets. This initiative aimed to foster youth engagement with literature and inspire future generations of writers.

A poetry recital held at the Divan Book Café in Aziz Duran Park featured performances of the poets’ works by students, emphasizing the fusion of young voices with established literary creations.

In Taraklı, a panel titled “Poetry and Technology” explored the evolving relationship between digital tools and poetic expression.

The festival concluded with a vibrant final gathering at the Human Rights Park in Sapanca, where poets met art lovers to share the enchantment of poetry. The closing night featured a musical performance by the Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality City Orchestra.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Alpay Şirin, Head of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs at the Metropolitan Municipality, expressed gratitude to the participants and reflected on the memorable moments created during the festival.

The event was attended by poets, writers, students, and a broad audience of literature enthusiasts.
