UEFA refereeing chief Roberto Rosetti has urged the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) to reduce the use of foreign referees in Greek domestic soccer competitions.
In a letter to EPO, Rosetti emphasized that while UEFA recognizes progress in recent reform efforts, the continued reliance on foreign officials may hinder the development of local refereeing.
He noted that supporting domestic referees is essential for long-term growth.
Rosetti also referenced the inclusion of a Greek referee in UEFA’s “Talents & Mentors” program as evidence of the country’s potential in nurturing high-level officiating.
UEFA expressed hope that Greece will continue building on recent improvements in EPO and training of its referees.
