Mohamed Salah set to join Trabzonspor
Trabzonspor have confirmed that Mohamed Salah will arrive in Türkiye on Wednesday to complete his move to the Turkish Süper Lig club, in what is expected to become one of the biggest transfers in Turkish football history.
The Black Sea club announced that formal negotiations with the Egyptian forward have begun following a disclosure to Türkiye's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). Salah, currently a free agent, is scheduled to land at Istanbul Atatürk Airport's General Aviation Terminal at midday before travelling to Trabzon later in the day.
"The player is expected to arrive in Trabzon during the evening. The time and details of the welcome ceremony will be announced through our official communication channels," the club said.
Club president Ertuğrul Doğan said negotiations accelerated after talks between Salah and Beşiktaş collapsed.
"There is nothing more to say about Mohamed Salah. He is a world-class player," Doğan said. "We needed a player of his quality and I believe this will be a great signing for us."
Doğan said he held direct talks with Salah and his representatives for around 10 days before reaching an agreement.
Salah is expected to undergo a medical examination in Istanbul before signing his contract and travelling to Trabzon for his official unveiling.
According to multiple reports, the 34-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract running until June 2028. The deal is expected to make him the highest-paid player in Turkish football, with an annual salary reportedly worth €17.5 million, in addition to performance bonuses and a share of revenue from officially licensed merchandise.
Trabzonspor plan to officially present Salah to supporters at Papara Park on Thursday, where he is expected to wear the No. 11 shirt.
Decorated career
Salah leaves Liverpool after nine seasons during which he established himself as one of the club's greatest players. He scored 257 goals in 442 appearances, helping the English side win two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
Born in Nagrig, Egypt, in 1992, Salah began his senior career with Al Mokawloon before moving to Basel in 2012. He later played for Chelsea, Fiorentina and Roma before joining Liverpool in 2017.
Internationally, the Egypt captain has earned global recognition as one of Africa's greatest footballers, leading his country to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the finals of the 2017 and 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Trabzonspor, who finished third in last season's Süper Lig, hope Salah's arrival will strengthen their bid for domestic success and their campaign in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers.
