Defense-minded Greece overcame the resistance of Lithuania with an 87-76 score in Riga on Tuesday to reach the Eurobasket semifinals for the first time in over 15 years.

The Lithuanians had a strong start, advancing 7-0, but the Greeks came back led 13-12 for the first time, and managed to contain Jonas Valanciunas (who also had a shoulder injury) to keep the upper hand for the rest of the game.

At the other end, Giannis Antetokounmpo performed another impressive show, and led the players of Vassilis Spanoulis to victory with 29 points in 32 minutes.

Despite playing in front of almost 10,000 Lithuanians and just a few hundred Greeks, Greece broke away in the final quarter, leading by up to 16 points (71-55), and despite a late rally by Lithuania it grabbed the ticket to the last four with ease.

Seconding Giannis on the night were impressive Vassilis Toliopoulos with 17 points and omnipresent Kostas Sloukas with 11.
