Galatasaray defeated Norwegian representative Molde 2-1 in the rematch of the UEFA Champions League play-off round last night and qualified for the groups.

Galatasaray succeeded in qualifying for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

The yellow-red team hosted Molde of Norway in the rematch of the match they won 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League play-off round.

Galatasaray started the match well in front of the yellow-red fans who filled RAMS Park and took a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute with a goal scored by star footballer Mauro Icardi from a penalty. After that, the yellow-red team struggled against their opponent from time to time and lost the scoring advantage with Eirik Hestad's goal in the 66th minute. The visiting team played a pressurised game in the last part of the match and Galatasaray took the lead again in the 90+3rd minute with Angelino's goal from a free kick.

The yellow-red team won the match 2-1 and qualified for the group stage of the "Giants League".

After the match, the yellow-reds celebrated the victory with their fans. At the end of the match, Angelino took the winning "triple", while coach Okan Buruk went to the stands and responded to the fans' shows of love.

17th time in the group stage

Galatasaray qualified to compete in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the 17th time by eliminating Molde.

The yellow-red team qualified for the 10th time and reached the group stage of the "Giants League".

Galatasaray had qualified for the group stage in 1993-1994 and 2001-2002 after two qualifying rounds, and in 1994-1995, 1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2003-2004 and 2006-2007 after one qualifying round.

"Cim Bom" competed directly in the groups in 2002-2003, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.

Filled its coffers by qualifying for the groups

After qualifying for the groups in the UEFA Champions League, Galatasaray has also earned a significant income.

With this important achievement, the yellow-red team guaranteed to earn at least 25 million euros.

Galatasaray, who received 15.6 million euros in participation and 1.5 million euros in market revenues for qualifying for the group stage, also received approximately 8 million euros from the coefficient regression. 

Lost only once in last 18 European matches

Galatasaray has been defeated only once in its last 18 matches in European cups.

The yellow-red team, which lost 2-1 to Dutch representative PSV at home in the UEFA Champions League qualifier in the 2021-2022 season, played a total of 18 matches, 12 of which were UEFA Europa League and 6 UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Galatasaray recorded 10 wins and 7 draws in this process, while the team suffered its only defeat against Spanish representative Barcelona in the UEFA Europa League last 16 round match in the 2021-2022 season.

Continues its unbeaten run

Galatasaray has not suffered defeat in 8 official matches this season.

The yellow-red team recorded 6 wins and 2 draws in 8 matches, including 2 in the Trendyol Super Lig and 6 in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Galatasaray scored 14 goals and conceded 5 goals in those matches.

Okan Buruk made history

Okan Buruk, who won his last 5 European Cup matches in charge of Galatasaray, made history as the first manager to achieve this feat at the yellow-red club.

Under the management of Buruk, the yellow-red team managed to win the rematch against Zalgiris in the UEFA Champions League 2nd qualifying round, Olimpija Ljubljana in the 3rd qualifying round and Molde in the play-off round.

Galatasaray's most consecutive wins in European competitions were four in a row under German coach Michael Skibbe and Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard.

2 Moldovan footballers unable to continue after head-on collision

Moldovan footballers Markus Kaasa and Erling Knudtzon, who suffered injuries in the 15th minute of the match, could not continue in the match.

Kaasa and Knudtzon collided head-on with Icardi in front of the Galatasaray penalty area. Molde and Galatasaray medical teams intervened in the field for the players who remained on the ground.

After the first intervention, Hestad replaced Kaasa and Lovitk came into the game instead of Knudtzon.

On the other hand, it was announced that 47 thousand 845 ticketed spectators followed the match at the stadium.
