Greece tops global rankings for malware exposure

Greece has emerged as the country most exposed to Internet malware, according to data released Monday by software security firm Kaspersky.

In 2024, global malware detections surged 14%, reaching 467,000 daily attacks. In Greece, Kaspersky’s systems blocked 15 million threats, including password stealers, spyware, ransomware, and banking malware.

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) exploitation attempts, enabling remote work access, increased by 21.5% in Greece compared to 2023, underscoring the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures for businesses.

“These findings confirm that Greece is as targeted by cybercriminals as major global markets,” said Vassilis Vlachos, Kaspersky’s Channel Manager for Greece and Cyprus. He called for greater vigilance among users and stronger infrastructure protection for organizations.

Data was gathered anonymously through Kaspersky’s Web Anti-Virus software, measuring activation frequency to assess malware risk.
