Very high risk of fire for six Greek regions on Thursday
The Fire Risk Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection for Thursday predicts a Very High Fire Risk (Category 4) in many parts of Greece.
Very High Fire Risk (Category 4) is forecast for the following regions:
- Peloponnese (regional units of Argolida, Arkadia and Lakonia)
- Southern Aegean (regional units of Cyclades islands)
- Central Greece (regional units of Viotia, Fthiotida, Fokida and Evia including the island of Skyros ) and Attica
-Northern Aegean (regional units of Chios, Samos, Ikaria) and Crete
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection has informed the state services involved, as well as regional and local authorities in the above areas to be on heightened alert to deal promptly with any outbreak of fire. It has also warned the public to avoid any activities outdoors that may accidentally start a fire, such as bonfires, use of machinery that creates sparks, barbecues, handling beehives or throwing away lit cigarettes.
