The only consolation is that there were no casualties

The General Directorate of the Regional Police of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace published a monthly report on the traffic accidents that occurred during the month of October 2023 in the jurisdictions of the police units of Evros, Rhodope, Xanthi, Kavala, and Thassos.

The report stated that 40 road accidents occurred in the whole province during October, the only consolation being that there were no fatalities.

According to a written statement by the police, 40 traffic accidents occurred statewide during October. In the same period, the number of traffic accidents in 2022 was stated as 34. It was also noted that 3 people lost their lives in 34 traffic accidents in 2022 in the same month.

There were no casualties in 40 traffic accidents in October. 6 people were seriously injured and 55 people were slightly injured.

According to the picture revealed in the traffic investigation of the police, the main causes of traffic accidents include excessive speed, distraction of the driver, priority violation, travelling in the opposite direction, sign violation and wrong overtaking.

During the month of October, a total of 7,201 traffic violations were detected by all police units in the province of Eastern Macedonia Thrace, of which 1,894 were dangerous violations.  

The report states that 1,073 were fined for excessive speed, 211 for not wearing seat belts, 191 for not wearing helmets, 140 for driving in the opposite direction, 110 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 69 for using mobile phones while driving, 47 for worn tyres, 26 for red light violations, 14 for overtaking and 13 for wrong turns.
