The first femicide of 2025: Mourning for 40-year-old Evgenia

Evgenia, a 40-year-old woman brutally beaten by her partner, passed away at Sofia University Hospital. The 42-year-old perpetrator has been remanded in custody and faces five charges, including attempted murder with intent.
The couple met in early 2024 in Xanthi, Greece. In April, Evgenia moved into the perpetrator’s home in Ergani, Rhodope, where he lived with his mother and brother. According to the victim's sister, the man exhibited violent behavior from the very beginning, assaulting her and isolating her from her family and friends.
The assault occurred in late October 2024. Evgenia was rushed to the hospital with broken cervical vertebrae and other severe injuries. Forensic expert Pavlos Pavlidis confirmed that her injuries were caused by a kick, contradicting the perpetrator's claim that she fell into a ditch.
Evgenia suffered from total paralysis, a fractured diaphragm, and severe injuries before succumbing to her wounds. Doctors immediately notified the authorities, leading to the perpetrator's arrest.
