Following the fall of the Ba'ath regime in Syria, Syrian refugees living in Greece gathered in Athens' Syntagma Square to celebrate the historic event with joy and gratitude.
Hundreds of Syrians, who had fled the Bashar al-Assad regime, expressed their relief and hope for a new future for their homeland. The crowd chanted in unison, some raising their voices in takbir to mark the occasion.
Yaser Alshahud, who fled to Greece in 2007, shared his happiness, recalling the loss of his brother and cousins during the Syrian conflict. “The end of the Ba'ath regime is a moment of great relief for us all,” he said.
