Strong winds and rain across Greece; further deterioration expected on Wednesday
Stormy winds and rain are expected on Tuesday in the Ionian Islands, the Peloponnese, and western mainland Greece. The National Meteorological Service (EMY) forecasts locally strong easterly and southeasterly winds of 8-10 Beaufort, with snow in mountainous areas, including the Evia and Crete islands. Temperatures will reach 12-14C in most mainland areas and 16-17C in southern Crete and the Dodecanese. Frost is expected in the mornings and evenings, with severe frost in northern regions.
On Wednesday, conditions will worsen with widespread rain and thunderstorms, heavy at times in the Ionian, western, central, and southern mainland, spreading to the Cyclades, Crete, the eastern Aegean islands, and the Dodecanese. Snowfall may be heavy in mountains and low-altitude areas of central and northern Greece.
Winds will remain strong in the south and over the seas, while temperatures will rise slightly, reaching up to 19C in Crete and the Dodecanese.
