Stormy weather and unseasonal cold across Greece on Friday
According to forecasts, heavy showers and storms will strike early in the day across Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the Aegean islands, and Crete. The Ionian Sea and western mainland will also see showers and possible thunderstorms. While conditions are expected to ease in the north and east as the day progresses, new storms will redevelop across the mainland and islands by midday—though they are not expected to be severe.
Light snowfall may occur in mountainous areas of Western and Central Macedonia, as colder air continues to sweep across northern Greece.
Temperatures will remain well below seasonal norms. In Western Macedonia, lows may dip to 2°C, while the rest of the country will range from 8–24°C, depending on the region. The lowest temperatures are expected late at night.
Winds will also be strong, especially in the Aegean, where southerly to westerly gusts could reach 7 Beaufort. Westerly and northwesterly winds of 5–7 Beaufort are expected in the Ionian Sea.
In Athens, cloudy skies and occasional showers are forecast. Winds will blow from the southwest to west at 3–5 Beaufort, with temperatures ranging from 15–21°C, cooling further in the evening.
In Thessaloniki, rain and possible thunderstorms—potentially strong in the morning—are expected. Winds will blow from the north at 3–5 Beaufort, and temperatures will stay cool between 8–11°C, with lows late at night.
