Tension in Exarchia after the end of the protest rally to mark the 16th anniversary of the shooting of Alexis Grigoropoulos by police in Athens. Organizations and student associations gathered at the Propilea around 6 pm. Almost an hour later, the demonstrators started marching towards the Hellenic Parliament.

Shortly before the end of the rally, part of the demonstrators turned into Benaki Street and headed towards Exarchia, where a rally was planned in front of the Alexandros Grigoropoulos monument. According to the Hellenic Police (EL.AS), a group of hooded figures set fire to rubbish bins on Metaxa and Emmanuel Benaki Streets. They then attacked the police with Molotov cocktails and stones, who responded with chemicals and flash-bang grenades. According to the police, 90 arrests have been made since the morning.

Earlier, at 12 noon, students marched from the Propilea to the Parliament.

A rally in memory of Alexandros Grigoropoulos also took place in the center of Thessaloniki on Friday evening. At the end of the rally, anti-authoritarians moved to Tsimiski Street, where they threw objects at the police. The police responded with flash-bang grenades and limited use of chemicals, followed by arrests.
