Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis conducted official visits to Moldova and Sweden on Thursday, June 12, with a focus on deepening bilateral ties and expanding collaboration in trade, energy, and strategic sectors.

Mitsotakis’ trip to Moldova marked a historic first for a Greek prime minister. He met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean to reaffirm Greece’s support for Moldova’s European Union accession efforts.

Talks centered on boosting cooperation in trade, economic development, and energy security. Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s role in regional energy infrastructure, especially through the Interconnector Greece–Bulgaria and the Vertical Gas Corridor, which facilitate natural gas supply to Moldova and Ukraine. He also emphasized opportunities in renewable energy and regional connectivity, areas where Greece is actively engaged.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional security, the war in Ukraine, and EU integration processes. Mitsotakis briefed Sandu on Greece’s positions concerning Greek-Turkish relations and the Cyprus issue.

In Stockholm, Mitsotakis met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. Their discussion focused on strengthening bilateral ties in economy and defense, and on broader European challenges.

A key topic was digital child protection, with Mitsotakis presenting Greece’s “Kids Wallet” initiative. The two leaders explored potential EU-wide cooperation to combat digital addiction among children.

They also addressed the growing influence of artificial intelligence, underlining the need for balanced regulation that supports innovation while protecting public interests. Discussions concluded with shared perspectives on European defense cooperation and boosting EU competitiveness.
