PM Mitsotakis: Those responsible for the death of the young man pushed into the sea will be held accountable
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that those responsible for the death of the person who was pushed into the sea by the crew of the ferry he was trying to board and drowned will be held accountable before the judiciary.
A video was shared on social media showing a 36-year-old man who tried to board a ferry from Piraeus harbour to Crete at the last moment and fell into the sea when the crew pushed him to prevent him from boarding the ferry.
Witnesses told the press that the crew refused to let the person on the ferry because he did not have a ticket.
While Piraeus Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation, 4 members of the ship's crew were detained.
In the first autopsy performed at the Forensic Medicine, the cause of death of the 36-year-old person was determined as drowning in the sea.
In the report, it was stated that the deceased, who had a head impact mark, was alive when he fell into the sea and died despite his efforts to save himself in the sea.
In his social media post, Mitsotakis expressed his regret and described the incident as "shameful".
Stating that those responsible will be punished and held accountable before the judiciary, Mitsotakis said, "I stand by the relatives of the victim."
