Over 1,500 emergency calls received by fire service due to severe weather in Attica
More than 1,500 emergency calls have been received by the Hellenic Fire Service since Wednesday, following severe weather conditions that caused significant problems across the Attica region. Firefighting crews continue to operate in several areas of the Athens basin even today.
According to an official announcement by the Fire Service, the adverse weather phenomena affected Attica from 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, until 6:30 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026. During this period, the Fire Service Operations Center received a total of 1,558 calls requesting assistance.
So far, firefighters have carried out 661 water pump operations, 40 tree removals, 61 transfers of individuals to safe locations, and 12 removals of hazardous objects.
The Fire Service has urged citizens to remain particularly cautious and to strictly follow the instructions issued by the competent authorities.
