New ID cards to include Personal Identification Number

A bill set to pass in Parliament on Thursday will require new ID cards to include each citizen’s Personal Identification Number (PIN), aiming to simplify interactions between citizens and public services.

According to the amendment, previously issued identity cards will remain valid until they are replaced or until their expiration date.

This regulation will apply to all individuals applying for an identity card.

The PIN is a unique identifier, similar to the Tax Identification Number (AFM) or the Social Security Number (AMKA), that will be used for all future transactions with public services.
