Starting November 6, the automatic issuance of the Personal Identification Number (PIN) will begin for citizens who have not yet obtained theirs by November 5, according to official reports.

So far, approximately 1.3 million citizens have already received their Personal Identification Number. The new PIN will gradually replace existing identification numbers currently in use — including the Tax Identification Number (AFM), the Social Security Number (AMKA), and the national ID number.

The PIN will be assigned to all individuals who hold either an AFM or an AMKA, regardless of whether they are Greek citizens or foreign residents living in Greece.

Citizens can obtain their PIN through the myInfo application using their Taxisnet credentials and a registered mobile phone number listed in the National Communication Registry.

Each PIN will be unique and permanent, consisting of 12 characters: three alphanumeric symbols — two of which can be chosen by the citizen — followed by the individual’s AFM.

The Personal Identification Number will also appear on newly issued national ID cards. Citizens who already possess a new ID card do not need to replace it, as their PIN will be accessible digitally.

However, those who have not yet obtained the new ID card will need to acquire their Personal Identification Number electronically before attending their appointment at the police station.
