New Covid-19 variant detected, no cause for alarm says expert
A new coronavirus variant is currently circulating in Greece, but health experts say there is no reason for public concern. The variant, part of the Omicron family, is not considered a significant epidemiological threat, according to Professor of Pulmonology Nikos Tzanakis.
Speaking to Skai TV, Tzanakis emphasized that the new strain is mild and does not strain the healthcare system. “A slight summer rise in cases is normal,” he noted, attributing it to seasonal behavior patterns.
Mild Symptoms and Declining Indicators
Infected individuals may experience symptoms such as a very sore throat, but overall, Covid-19 hospitalizations and fatalities continue to decline, the professor added.
The Ministry of Health has not issued any new restrictions or guidelines, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
