KKE's call on the port of Alexandroupolis

The Greek government's decision to retain state ownership of the port of Alexandroupolis and to "assume all the necessary intiatives for its further development" was taken with the aim of Greece's even deeper and more direct involvement in the economic and energy war raging between NATO and Russia, on terms that "upgrade the ruling elite in the wider region," the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) asserted in an announcement of Friday.

"This development has a clear and anti-popular stamp. The upgrading of the port will be the beginning of multiple threats for the people of Alexandroupolis and for the Greek people as a whole, as well as for the people of the region. Alexandroupolis' direct involvement in the war and military activities turns it into a military target, alongside Souda and Larissa, while the exploitation of the port multiplies the risk of pollution of the environment, of large-scale industrial 'accidents' and a destruction of the local economy, which is based on a small scale activities," the party underlined.

"We call on the Greek people and especially the people of Alexandroupolis to fight these developments and rally with KKE," the party said.
