Journalist targeted, bomb found outside home

Authorities are investigating the discovery of an explosive device outside the home of journalist Giannis Pretenteris in the northern Athens suburb of Neo Psychiko.

The device, consisting of five sticks of dynamite with a detonator, was found in the home’s yard by the journalist’s security guard. No warning was given, and the device did not explode.

Bomb disposal experts safely removed the device, which has been transferred to police laboratories for further examination. Anti-terrorism police and firefighters responded to the scene.

Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis condemned the incident, calling it “an unequivocal attack” and stating, “Democracy will not be intimidated. Freedom of opinion for journalists is non-negotiable.”

Marinakis expressed confidence that authorities would identify and prosecute those responsible, and urged efforts to reduce toxicity in public discourse, “especially in recent times.”
