GREEK POLICE IMPLEMENT TARGETED PLAN TO COMBAT CRIME AND VIOLENCE
The Hellenic Police (ELAS) have launched a series of specialized operations across Greece aimed at preventing and addressing criminal activity, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, and improving road safety. The three-pronged initiative includes both preventive and reactive measures and is carried out in coordination with various police departments nationwide.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RESPONSE
From April 7 to 13, 2025, ELAS responded to 586 calls related to domestic violence through its emergency line. A total of 232 arrests were made, and 367 incidents were formally investigated. Additionally, the Panic Button application was activated for 95 female victims. Police units transported three victims to support facilities and eleven others to hospitals or forensic services. The majority of these cases were handled by the Domestic Violence Response Offices, which specialize in such incidents. The police also continue to operate “safe houses” throughout the country to provide short-term shelter to women and children facing domestic violence.

EFFORTS TO ADDRESS YOUTH OFFENSES
To prevent youth violence and support community safety, especially for minors and their families, ELAS deployed specially trained officers in neighborhoods, public squares, and areas where young people tend to gather. These community policing efforts resulted in 5,955 individual checks, 284 detainments, and 181 arrests. In total, 205 violations were recorded during the same period.

CRACKDOWN ON GENERAL CRIME
Targeted operations addressing broader criminal activity also continued across Greece. Between April 7 and 13, police conducted 426 operations, during which 97,877 individuals were checked, 3,772 were taken in for questioning, and 1,781 were arrested. Officers solved 231 theft and burglary cases, 44 fraud cases, 35 vehicle thefts, 28 robberies, as well as 204 weapons-related and 310 drug-related cases. These efforts were based on regional strategies focusing on high-crime areas.

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AND ROAD SAFETY
In a parallel campaign to improve road safety, the Traffic Department conducted 135,366 vehicle checks and issued 35,206 citations. Violations included 13,754 illegal parking cases, 7,575 for speeding, 1,762 for helmet non-use, and 1,345 for not wearing seat belts. Police also cited 1,071 drivers for lacking a valid license, 859 for vehicle inspection (KTEO) issues, 615 for mobile phone use while driving, and 556 for driving under the influence.

ELAS has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing these focused operations with full intensity, aiming to enhance public safety, support victims of domestic violence, and ensure that no child feels unprotected.
