A Greek driver was shot in the foot after injuring a motorcyclist and threatening Turkish police with a sharp object at the Türkiye-Greece border.

According to DHA news reported by Sözcü Newspaper, the incident occurred in the area between the Ipsala Border Gate in Edirne, Turkey, and the Kipi Border Gate in Greece. The Greek driver, who was in a car, collided with a motorcyclist, causing injuries. Following the collision, the driver entered the Turkish customs area at high speed and subsequently approached Turkish police officers with a sharp object.

The car, traveling in the wrong direction, first hit a truck and then barriers at the X-ray entry point for trucks. The driver then exited the vehicle and advanced toward police officers with a sharp object. In response, the police fired two warning shots into the air. When the suspect ignored the warning, he was shot in the foot and subsequently apprehended. Both the suspect and the injured motorcyclist were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Governorate Statement

The Edirne Governorate issued a statement regarding the incident: "The foreign national who was detained has been sent to the hospital for medical examination and is not in life-threatening condition. The injured motorcyclist is also in stable condition but has been sent to the hospital as a precaution. We wish him a speedy recovery. The matter has been officially reported to the relevant authorities in Greece through the Joint Contact Center, and the Greek Consul in Edirne has been invited to the Governorate for detailed information. An investigation into the incident has been initiated, and developments are being closely monitored."
