Greece, Bulgaria, Romania discuss cooperation

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu met for regional cooperation issues.
Greece, Bulgaria, Romania discuss cooperation

Transport, communication and energy infrastructure projects were discussed at the meeting hosted by Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov in the Varna region of eastern Bulgaria.

The meeting discussed the oil pipeline project between Bulgaria and Greece, the European Union (EU) supported project for the construction of a new railway between the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea.

During the meeting, it was proposed to extend the transport corridor project between Thessaloniki-Kavala-Dedeaghach-Burgas-Varna-Constanta to Moldova at a future stage.

It was also learnt that the cooperation of the participating countries within the scope of NATO and the increasing importance of the Black Sea region, the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area and the common priorities in the EU accession process of the Western Balkan countries were also discussed during the meeting.

"It was decided to increase cooperation"

Speaking at the joint press conference organised after the meeting, Bulgarian Prime Minister Denkov said: "Our future depends on the close relations between us. Our contacts took place in a pragmatic and positive atmosphere."

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: "Athens, Sofia and Bucharest have common positions on all current issues. We wish to further develop our co-operation between us."

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said: "Our trilateral format will enhance the strategic cooperation between our countries in the region. This cooperation is important for the whole of Europe, especially in the complex context of Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine."

A joint declaration of co-operation was signed at the end of the meeting.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis proposed to organise the second trilateral meeting in Alexandroupoli.
