Severe flooding hit homes, tourist accommodations and camp sites in Foinikounda, a seaside settlement in the southern Peloponnese, early Friday after a river overflowing from the Grizokampos area surged toward the coast during storm Byron. The sudden rise in water left several people trapped.

State broadcaster ERT reported that two German tourists were rescued after their lodging, vehicle and caravan were inundated. Two Hungarian nationals who own a residence nearby also required assistance, while the local community president was forced to abandon his vehicle before being rescued by the Fire Service.

Authorities said the Fire Department, Police and the Municipality of Pylos-Nestor responded promptly, launching rescue operations as the flooding unfolded. Damage to homes and infrastructure will be assessed later in the day, while the area remains on alert due to landslide risks and ongoing traffic disruptions.

Regional and municipal crews are working to restore access and clear debris as severe weather continues.
